Chippenham Borough Lands Charity
"Our past helping your future"
Baydons Lane

In 2000 the Charity purchased an additional 6.1 acres of land at Baydon's Lane, agreeing to retain the land as public open space.  Baydons Meadow is a small meadow beside the River Avon.  In March 2003 CBLC provided funding for the Wiltshire Wildlife Trust to employ a Project Officer to initiate a community and wildlife project at the site.

The site, roughly triangular in shape, is bordered by the River Avon on the north-east side, by the cycleway on the west, and a hedge on its southern edge.  The creation of the cycleway and bridge over the river has given better access to and from the site to the town centre. public transport and schools. The land on the opposite side of the cycleway is managed by the Woodland Trust, where a small Millennium Wood has been planted.  The land on the other side of the river is owned by NWDC.  The Chippenham Angling Club has the fishing rights on the river.

Volunteers of all ages have begun restoring the meadow and the hedge. Many wild flowers have been introduced into the meadow and a new hedgerow of mixed native shrubs has been planted alongside the old, ivy-covered hawthorns, on the southern boundary.
